WOLVES FANS HOPING TO EARN THEIR ‘STARS & STRIPES’ BY PULLING A RABBIT OUT OF THE HAT FOR MAGIC WEEKEND

On the weekend of the 25th & 26th May, thousands of Rugby League fans will travel to the iconic Anfield Stadium to watch their beloved team at this year’s Magic Weekend extravaganza.

Spare a thought for a group of Warrington Wolves fans who will have made their journey on 2 wheels from one side of the country to the other. Leaving the Port of Hull on Thursday 23rd May, 10 cyclists will attempt to travel from Coast to Coast in time for the Warrington Wolves game against Wigan Warriors on Saturday 25th May. The fixture will commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Great American Challenge between the 2 clubs which took place in Milwaukee, USA and will feature the players wearing replica kits similar to the 1989 originals. Some of this year’s participants are actively involved in the life changing projects delivered in Warrington by the Club’s award winning charity Foundation, including the men’s mental health programme, Offload which has recently celebrated its 2 year anniversary.

Wolves Foundation Director, Neil Kelly, who is one of the cyclists this year was quick to highlight how vital these fundraising challenges are to the work of the charity in changing the lives of people in Warrington through sport;

“I have the privilege of witnessing first-hand the impact of our projects on some of the most vulnerable people in our local community and am proud to join some of the beneficiaries in attempting to cycle from Coast to Coast on what promises to be an epic challenge. Each year the Wolves Foundation attempts 6 major fundraisers such as the annual Wire2Wolves Beer Festival, the Family Mile and the Magic Weekend Bike Ride and the money raised literally changes lives through sport. The funds raised by the cyclists will used to support our health projects such as Offload & Live Life the Wolves Way and it is great to see people from these projects jumping on board this year”.
