Mental Health and Movement Alliance releases Change Through Movement report
Last month, the Mental Health and Movement Alliance came together to mark the release of its new report, Change Through Movement, setting out a shared call for action to better integrate movement and physical activity into mental health prevention, treatment and recovery. The Alliance, convened by Mind with support of Sport England, brings together organisations working across mental health and physical activity to share learning, shape policy and improve outcomes for people experiencing mental health problems. STATE OF MIND SPORT are a member of the Mental Health and Movement Alliance.
Change Through Movement outlines the role that community-based physical activity and movement can play in supporting mental health as part of great mental health care. Designed for government, commissioners, funders and service providers, the report draws on evidence and lived experience to make practical recommendations for embedding movement more intentionally across mental health systems.
The report calls for greater collaboration between the mental health and physical activity sectors, helping to ensure movement is used safely, inclusively and in ways that genuinely improve mental health outcomes. It also reflects the Alliance's long-standing ambition to embed physical activity across the mental health sector, while strengthening mental health understanding across sport and physical activity settings.
Change Through Movement provides a foundation for the Alliance's ongoing work over the coming months, helping to inform discussions, partnerships and practice across the sector. These insights will contribute to a wider programme of engagement with stakeholders and decision-makers next year, focused on embedding movement more intentionally within mental health support across the UK.
