The story is based in Northern England, 2004.

16-year-old Mark plays football to stay connected to his late father.

But after a teammate’s suicide, the silence around him grows louder.

Burdened by a brutal coach and the weight of buried grief, Mark begins to unravel, caught in a game that’s abused him rather than healed him.

On World Mental Health Day the theme is that support starts from being heard

Everyone’s mental health journey is different. Whether someone is facing challenges themselves, seeking support for the first time, or supporting a loved one, everyone deserves to feel heard, understood and supported. Yet everyday pressures, life circumstances, stigma and systemic barriers can make it harder for people to reach out, seek support, and get the help they need.

Mental health affects us all, and taking the time to listen is one of the most powerful ways we can all show support and understanding. That’s why we’re encouraging you to create space for honest conversations where people feel genuinely heard. Because being heard can change lives.

This World Mental Health Day, help others feel heard. By sharing your experience, starting a conversation, or taking the time to listen, you could help someone feel understood, less alone, and more confident reaching out for support.

Dr Phil Cooper MBE co-founder of State of Mind Sport said "Dogbone is a powerful film that highlights the need to be heard. Mark needed to be heard, his friend needed to be heard and Mark's mum needed to hear Mark's concerns. Watching 'Dogbone' can help people to speak to someone and be heard. The film has added to the list of resources that can help to change and save lives."
